GOLF COURSE UPDATE

The North Golf Course will temporarily close from April to September to undergo improvement and renovation works.

It is with great enthusiasm that we inform you that the North Golf Course will be temporarily closed from April to September to undergo improvement and renovation works.

During this period, we are working to further enhance the quality of the course while remaining true to the character, values and playing experience envisioned by Jack Nicklaus.

These carefully considered improvements are designed to preserve the spirit of the course, while supporting its long-term quality, sustainability, and resilience, allowing us to reopen with a truly unforgettable golfing experience.

#1 in Portugal again

In the latest Golf Digest rankings, Monte Rei has again been confirmed as the #1 golf course in Portugal and also impressively, #27 in the World!

Acknowledging the stunning panoramic views to the Atlantic Ocean, the Golf Digest judges felt the design is a blend of modern and classic – wide fairways, aggressive bunkering and shallow, angled greens that shape around hazards including a variety of American-style water features.

Michelin star

During yesterday's 2022 Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal reveal in Valencia, Monte Rei's iconic restaurant, Vistas Rui Silvestre was once again awarded one Michelin star, for the third year in a row!

Chef Rui and the Monte Rei team are extremely proud to celebrate this achievement and would like to thank everyone who supported us on this journey and are very grateful for this incredible recognition.

We look forward to the seasonal reopening in March 2022 and to continuing to deliver outstanding gourmet dining experiences for all of our residents, guests, and visitors!

Golf Course update

The last week has been a challenge for all involved, but we remain grateful as the situation could have been much worse. Aside from the damage to some of the native areas, the golf course has escaped significant damage and is now back open and very playable.

Head of Greenkeeping, João Goulao, expressed his pride in the team’s efforts. “I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the members of the maintenance team that had a vital role during the fire combat, and are now very committed to bringing our course back to its original condition.”

The practice ground and Swing Studio were unaffected but sadly The Academy Café was destroyed and will now be replaced.

Our Head Pro, Neil Turley, recently realised a life long dream of competing in an Open Championship.

Coming through qualifying at Hindhead Golf Club to then walking onto the 1st tee at Sunningdale Golf Club, all the hard work and practice allowed Neil to experience a truly unique week.

Monte Rei sweeps the board in Portugal

The entire management team at Monte Rei are thrilled to confirm an almost clean sweep in the recently announced awards for Portugal from Leadingcourses.com.

Monte Rei Golf & Country Club achieved 1st place in the Golfers’ Choice Rankings 2021 for Best 18-Hole Golf Club, Best Golf Course, Best Maintenance, Best Facilities and Best Hospitality in Portugal.

The Golfers’ Choice Ranking is based on the reviews of the golfers, and is the largest golf review portal in Europe. Every month more than 400.000 golfers visit the website to determine where to play next and review the courses they have visited.

Solidarity Initiative

Executive Chef Rui Silvestre and his team from Monte Rei have joined with local food suppliers, Makro, and the network supporting those in need, Rede de Emergência Alimentar, to prepare and supply meals for the health professionals currently working in these very difficult times.

They have been joined in this initiative, also helping families in need, by Brandelicious and Antigravity.

Vistas awarded Michelin Star

Monte Rei is very proud to announce that our fine dining restaurant, Vistas, has been awarded its first Michelin star. Led by Executive Chef, Rui Silvestre, the entire team has worked tirelessly to ensure Vistas offers the complete dining experience.

In confirming the award, the Michelin judges praised Vistas as “a kitchen of great finesse, deserving of a visit. Using top quality ingredients, dishes with distinct flavours are carefully prepared to a consistently high standard.”

Extensive renovation work continues over the coming months, and we look forward to re-opening in March 2020 with a greatly improved kitchen area alongside a new dedicated chef’s table.

Jack Nicklaus visits Monte Rei

Monte Rei welcomed Jack Nicklaus to Monte Rei in July, rounding off a landmark month for the club. Mr Nicklaus spent two days at Monte Rei, working with the team responsible for designing and developing the new South Course which commence construction soon, as well as reviewing the 12-year-old and award-winning North Course.

Mr Nicklaus was very impressed by both the maturity and quality of the North Course, and the huge possibilities that the South Course offers, saying:

“Monte Rei really is a jewel! The North Course has matured over time and is a hugely impressive course now. I’m obviously very proud of it as you didn’t hire me to design a signature hole, you wanted me to design 18 signature holes, and that’s what we tried to do.”

“And with the South Course, we will create something new and distinct from the North Course, but consistent with my design philosophy. We will try to create enough variety that they love the variety, and like both golf courses. The two courses will complement each other and continue to further Monte Rei’s reputation as one of the best golf resorts in Europe.”
